Question about the forum..."similar threads"...

I don't see a forum issues thread so I'll post this here...is there a way to tweak the algorithm for this forum so that the similar threads feature doesn't have posts from 10 years ago? This seems like an obvious thing to me. More than once I was going to jump into an interesting thread only to notice it's 11 years old.

I agree. Maybe using colours, old threads will stand out more...

You can ask the mods to move it there by clicking on the Report Button.

Thanks for the feedback. The Similar Threads algorithm does take date into account, but we have no plans to completely remove the ability to show older threads. Note that all threads over six months old have the quick reply box disabled and show a large red warning when you reply.

I almost posted the same (as a new thread), but (fortunately) searched this Forum for (threads titled) same!

I often see lots of 10-20 yearold 'Similar Threads' which are generally *totally* useless (except for cli howto).
I think this discourages the use of this potentially-greatly-useful feature.

Is there a(n easy) way to limit it, to like 3yr?

Can the 'matching' be 'improved'?

(I believe this 'similar' list is presented to *new* threads, making it exponentially useful!)

Also, (minor nit) is there a way to omit 'Closed' threads? (e.g. Closed dup here)

p.s. Just curious: How (when) is the 'new' LQ coming?
