Click on or search for a username and select to send a message.

I'm not sure and a search did not help me, but I think you have reach a post threshold before you can PM an LQ member. If I'm wrong, I'm sure someone will correct me.

i recently tried to contact a newbie, and email was the only option.
i thought they had disabled pm, but maybe not - they didn't seem to know anything about.
so maybe you're right.

Moving this to the Suggestions and Feedback forum.

A lot of the site information is not always evident.

From the LQ FAQ:

https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...ivate_messages
Quote:
NOTE: Private messages are only enabled for members in the Senior Member and Contributing Member usergroups.
As also pointed out, email is a possible option if the user has chosen to allow their email to be visible to other members.

Senior members are those with greater than 1,000 posts.

Contributing members are those who have optionally chosen to contribute financially towards the site.

I'm sure I remember being able to (and did) send other members PM's before I reached "Senior Member" status. From memory I think that was normal members and mod's.

Have you looked in: User CP > Edit Options > under "Private Messaging" > "Enable Private Messaging" ??

For the purposes of PM elegibility, "senior members" means 150 posts.

i have never seen that screen.
i don't think that's what you're looking for.
in my profile, it's here: https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...do=editoptions
halfway down, it says enable private messaging with a checkbox.
if you don't see that, you probably have to wait until you reach 150 posts, as ntubski said.
