Please don't yell at me! Any one been to...

Ok, have any of you been to experts-exchange? This site has really helped me out. But still, I find I can use sites like LQ(Thanks!) and kirupa (great forum!) to help me out. Many times I ask the same question here as I do Experts-exchange. If this form answers the question first, I go back to experts-exchange and redeem my points before anyone posts a reply. Most of the time I get a response/solution from experts-exchange first, but I always post the answer to my question here, even if no one has responded.

{FACT}
Your main usage LQ is to answer questions.

{Duty}
Answer them as fast as you can!

I have no problem paying a little money for a quick solid solution. I think others will agree, when the $h!t gets thick, I need help now!!!

{Idea}
Keep your free site, but add an incentive for people to answer questions faster if someone request a faster answer.

Just thinking out loud. Any Comments?

maybe if money started to change hands
then you would get the beginnings of demands for refunds and law suits
as those with a tighter grip on their money than on their humanity began to demand
they "get what they paid for"

perhaps I'm being too cynical

please can we leave money out of this

Just one, maybe more

It's basically a crap shoot. If you post a question and there is a guru that knows how to fix your problem or help in some way then you get a quick response. If you post a question and nobody knows the answer, well what can I say.

I must also say that most of the people here are knowledgable and very helpful. I know that if I am unsure of a solution, I say so. I may say "try this" or "not familiar with your distro but this may help." I just did one of those. Sometimes the smallest hint may help you off to the solution. It does for me anyway.

The BIGGEST help is to put a good subject for the thread. Most on dial-up, me included, will not even view a thread that has a poor subject. Example, "newbie needs help". Yep he needs help. He needs to post with a better thread subject. Yours is questionable I may add. I must also say that a mod will close the thread for that reason.

I sure they would apreciate the support if you choose to do so. They have bills to pay just like anybody else.

Later.

"Most on dial-up, me included, will not even view a thread that has a poor subject."

gotta disagree on that one,
i'm on dial up (though i do have a "surf unlimited" package from my isp)

i go out of my way to answer those posts especially, because they are obviously very new and quite lost

but i agree that poor subject lines don't help the poster too much, but it's just another area they need help in

i try not to judge ppl for breaking rules they scarecly knew existed and try to be merciful at all other times anyway

but that's just me
i have more time than i care for at the moment
so i don't mind spending some of it helping others out

I try to if I can but it does help.

I have a lot of time to. Disabled. Hate every minute of it. I miss working.

Later

Oh, my first post to a message board ever was "corrupt command.com windows won't boot". I got very good responses too. Never fixed it but I didn't like windoze anyway.

My 2 cents: I don't like the idea of creating separate "free" and "for a fee" sections on LQ. Obviously any decisions in that regard would be up to the owner of the site, but I think salparadise makes a really good point that anytime money is exchanged for services rendered, and the buyer is unhappy with the results, suddenly both parties would turn to LQ to referee the disputes, handle refunds, and basically run its own small claims court. I doubt that LQ either wants or needs that kind of distraction, plus, at least to me it would poison the whole LQ experience.

As a side note, I'm not familiar with the other sites you mention, but I'll assume they require subscriptions and/or fees to access. If so, then I'd find it a little curious that in your own post you state that there have been times when LQ (which is free) has efficiently provided you with the right info you need, and yet you also admit that you "don't mind paying a little money for a quick solid solution". If this is true, then how about using whatever money you'd be spending for that to become a Contributing Member of LQ rather than to pay somebody else for technical advice? It's just a thought. I see the consensus is, "if it ain't broke don’t fix it."

To the last post, (J.W.) I do give this form something in return, answers to my own questions. Like I said, If "Experts-Exchange" answers my question and I have the same question posted hear, I will post the answer. So I paid "EE" but LQ gets the answer to.

To dalek, I usually post with more proper titles, but this area of the form seems to be more for leisure then for the serious endeavors. My title, " Please don't yell at me! Any one been to..." means please don't be mad I brought up money or another companies name that is relative to this one.

Does EE really have to deal with lawsuits? For $13 I get a 1000 points to use towards questions. The average question is 250 points. I do not think it would be worth my time to take them to court for any think lass then $5000.

Just for the record, I think this site is great, and so are the people. I like it so much, I am posting ideas on how LQ can help them selves.
