I have been having a lot of trouble of late getting Linuxquestions to come up in my browser (firefox for what it matters). Whether I try to reach the site from my bookmarks or from the addressbar (using fully qualified name or dotted quad), this does not take me anywhere. All I get is a spinning cursor that seems to be stuck in some sort of infinite loop. As I could ping the site just fine, I decided to try the google search bar and, tada, here I am after all. But what could be wrong with the other methods and why has it been happening for the last weeks or so only? And is anyone else experiencing similar problems?
Me too! It's been happening a lot to me but I don't come here often.
I had made a duplicate post about it here.
This has happened another 3 times for me today, I'm leaving for a while. Site crashes are causing me to double post things, and I can't delete my posts which is extra annoying.
I'm sure someone here can help LQ with their problems if they wanted to ask for help, this place is full of people who know stuff.
Tt should never go down and for many years we had near zero problems. Our provider is having some SAN issues recently that has been causing sporadic issues. We're working with a senior tech now and hope to have the issue solved very soon. If not we'll be moving providers. Uptime is something we take extremely seriously and I sincerely apologize for the recent uncharacteristic outages.

That actually does not look related to the problem we were having, but appears to be a DNS issue. Our DNS has been rock solid in the past, so it's possible it's either something on your end or something between you and the DNS servers. Is anyone else seeing this?
I always use Firefox, but last few days I've been using Konqueror, maybe it's got something to do with it.Anyway I could browse any other site with no problem.I was logged in and I was trying to edit my post in the link above, that's when the problem started.I have a very stable ISP,meaning that in 7 years the connection never got broken or there was any DNS issue whatsoever but when I was trying to edit that post the connection was terminated and I needed to enter my wep key again to get it going and Konqueror was gone from my desktop.I often have long time periods of waiting when I want to edit some of my posts on LQ and like I said before when I want to get LQ in my browser. Also,a few times I have seen server errors when I was trying to reach LQ.
Anyway, thank you Jeremy for trying to resolve this.

The "server error" (specifically a 502) is the issue we're working on now. It's possible your browser is serving "friendly errors", but I thought IE was the only browser that did that.

...ha-ha,well I'm not sure about Konqueror,I'm just tryin' it out,but I think that it's not a very stable browser at the moment and it needs some improvements.
This looks interesting;

One thing I pointed out in the talk that you want to keep an eye on is a feature of IE6 called "Show Friendly Http Errors". This can be configured in the Tools->Internet Options->Advanced tab within IE, and is on by default with IE6. When this is on, and a server returns a non HTTP-200 status code with less than 512 bytes of content, IE will not show the returned HTML and instead substitutes its own generic status code message (which personally I don't think is super friendly <g>).
I'm not sure if this goes for Konqueror,I will check it out.

We're closely monitoring things and will continue to focus on performance and stability until the issue is definitively fixed. I appreciate the patience. If anyone notices any related issue, please let me know ASAP.
How have things been over the last 24 hours or so for everyone?

I had lots of problems accessing LQ in the last few days. I'm certain it was not DNS problems and pretty sure the problem was not at my end.
I think the problems continued within 24 hours before Jeremy's post, but I can't say for sure. Definitely no problems (in a large number of accesses) since 18 hours before Jeremy's post.
I use Firefox if that matters.
Edit: Late Yesterday morning, after seeing post #11 in the thread at http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...6/#post3430738
I started to create post #12 and had access problems reaching LQ. That was the last LQ problem I had. I left the reply attempt open in my browser while I was away from my desk and finished constructing that post without further problems Yesterday afternoon. That gives a few hour window on when the problems stopped for me.

I have been having issues with several domains which use the Bulkregister and eNom nameservers over the past weekend. Even the Bulkregister and eNom sites were unreachable during the same periods. I don't know what DNS LQ is using but this problem seems to be more widespread than just LQ.
I host my own servers so this is not an ISP problem. It seems to be a DNS problem.
