Sounds cool, but I have a feeling the bandwidth would be through the roof on that.

Yeah, it might be fun, but not playable without DSL or T1 or cable.

A Google "search bar" in every forum.

Neat idea, it's built in my browser, and I think that's the trend

i'd like the 'UNresolved and Fixed issue thread marking' feature added to all the tech subforums.

and about the search: i read the post by jeremy saying that he'd post a doc about how the search works. in the meanwhile, could the search be made to search on a per post basis rather than the entire thread. it'd help to make searches more specific. and also the above feature (if it's added) as a search criteria; which would be ignored for (sub)forums that don't have it.

also, the timeout. can it be increased? i don't wanna use cookies coz i don't want other users of this comp mistakenly browsing it on my id.

ps: this thread was a good idea

Searching by post vs. thread is already an option in the current search. The current timeout of 15 minutes is not something I'd really want to increase at this point - it a quite standard timeout.

I only have 2 suggestions: first, if it would be possible to add the ability to print a single post, that would be most excellent. Doing a cut and paste of the relevant info obviously is an option, but sometimes in a thread there are numerous good posts that you'd like to save for references purposes, and it would be be seriously cool to be able to easily print them out. Second, given the phenomenal growth of LQ, I'd suggest reconsidering the inclusion of the Latest Posts section in the Community Bulletin Email. Don't get me wrong, the links to the various posts are often interesting, but the simple fact is that with the audience LQ now has, and the sheer number and turnover of new posts, many of those posts (particularly the zero answers category) will be "stale" (so to speak) within about 20 minutes or so. You might want to consider just substituting generic links rather than a set of individual post links. As always, this is just my 2 cents. LQ rocks and again I thank everyone involved for making this the premier site for Linux info. -- J.W.

I live in a smaller world than some of the other posts here:

Can you put a 'search' command button near the top of the page. As stupid as this sounds, on my screen I have to scroll down to find it after I have completed entering my search path. I know where it is now -- just below the bottom of my screen -- so I don't need a button at the top. But I remember when I was a brand new newbie and everything -- everything -- about linux was confusing and non-intuitive.

I thought that the "search" in the path at the top left of the screen "linuxquestions> forums> search" was the link. I kept clicking it; search requests disappeared and I had to start over. It took a half an hour or more for me to figure out the button was just below my screen.

I am not normally stupid; but when you are brand new and full of a hundred confusions that kind of thing can be awfully frustrating and ego destroying.

If you just hit enter after putting in your search terms, the search will start.

Thanks XavierP

I now have a completely destroyed ego. I guess I have to confess -- I am normally quite stupid!

I only realised that because I'm lazy - and because I didn't realise that there even was a search button.

XavierP don't do scrolling!
