I was wondering how many LQ users you have to give Reputation to, before you can give LQ users more Reputation, that you have already given Reputation to in the past?
I'm not talking about the "Did you find this post helpful?Yes" feature, as I know you can still click on the "Yes" option, regardless of whether you have already given that same LQ user Reputation before or not.
As I've tried to give other LQ users more Reputation (who I thought provided a very good answer) but, have gotten the following message;
Code:
LinuxQuestions.org Message
You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to [LQ_username_here] again.
I don't give Reputation unless, I think the answer provided, really deserves such recognition. As I think just giving Reputation willy-nilly is an abuse of the Reputation system and defeats the point of what it should be for (highlighting LQ members that provide good answers and/or help to other members). Or who think that the information/post really deserves that kind of recognition.

Actually for a particular post, you cannot. Which is to say that if for instance I gave you reputation using the scales for your first post here and then chose to try to click Yes, it would give me a similar message citing that I had already given reputation for that very post. Oddly enough, even thought it knows this, it still shows you the Yes option.

If you click on the "Rep" or the scales icon first, and then "Yes" next to "Did you find this post helpful?", it works. But the other way around it won't, try it.

There is both a time and distinct member component, so there is no exact answer. That said, it's low enough that it's not something that should impact most members and is implement to prevent abuse of the system.
