Question Please? :fingerscrossed:( as if I'm superstition:(-))

I'd like some Android apps to fit in here (or in its own category;) specifically GNU\Linux Related APKs, like eg: Debian noroot, F-Droid, Man Man and\or so on... would be ?

Thanks for the feedback, keep it coming. This is a 24 hour warning. As mentioned in post #1, we are leaning toward removing "Open Source Web Framework of the Year", but have not made a final decision yet.

Not sure of the best wording, but, something like: Best Dropbox Server replacement? (owncloud, nextcloud, etc...)

Open Source Cloud Solution of the Year was added a couple years ago and includes both those projects.

Ok. I thought that was "Openstack" related by its name.

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...ar-4175562731/ for last years nominees. Note that Nextcloud didn't exist and will be added this year.

That is so strange. The top 4 of those are "Virtualized Cloud" offerings like openstack and cloudstack. Things that bring together a bunch of servers and deploy and manage virtual machines. These are made up of 50 different projects and have 100,000 pages of documentation. Think of "Things trying to be like Amazon AWS."

Then the last entry is "owncloud" which is not even slightly related to them. It's more of a file-sync/photo storage platform that you can hit from other devices. Its a glorified PHP script, with maybe 50 pages of documentation. Think of "Things trying to be like Dropbox."

Them there are apples and telescopes.

As I post every year:

Quote:
* We do realize that some polls have nominees that are not directly comparable. There are over 35 polls. If we got down to the granularity some members would like to see, there would be 100's if not 1000's of polls. That would be a net decline in the usefulness of the awards IMHO. We try to strike the best balance we can, and do modify the polls and nominees every year, based on feedback. If you have any suggestions on how the polls can be improved, do let us know.

The be clear, additional feedback is always welcome and encouraged. I'd agree that category is not ideal from a nominee perspective. If you have specific suggestions on how you think it can be improved, do feel free to post about it. One possible solution is that we alternate between "Open Source Cloud Solution of the Year" which contains OpenStack, CloudStack, etc. and "Open Source File Sync Application of the Year" which contains OwnCloud, Nextcloud, Syncthing, etc.

I imagine the "Open Source File Sync Application of the Year" category would look something like:

Quote:
Cozy
FreeFileSync
Nextcloud
ownCloud
Pydio
Seafile
SparkleShare
Stacksync
Syncany
Syncthing
Any feedback on this category vs Open Source Cloud Solution of the Year?

Would "Blackarch" or "Kali Linux" fit in the category "Security Application of the Year"? Or is it reserved for like OSSEC or Snort etc...?

I don't think distros are a good fit for the category.
