2009 LinuxQuestions.org Members Choice Award Categories
It's almost time for the 2009 LinuxQuestions.org Members Choice Awards and I'm going to post the proposed categories a bit earlier than usual to allow some additional time for comments and feedback. Keep in mind that while we understand that some categories end up containing projects that might not be directly comparable, it's simply not feasible to have enough categories to be all encompassing.

Aside from who wins a particular contest, it's also interesting (and I think valuable) to see how say a browser such as chrome has changed in popularity over the last year.
Multimedia Utility of the Year - the term 'multimedia' is usually just something like mplayer, i.e. audio/video. Isn't this category redundant with the audio and video ones ? Or are there other multimedia apps that people are going to vote for ? Either way, I never understood this category.
Graphics Application of the Year - Probably the two main contenders here are GIMP and inkscape. The problem is that these two programs do very different things, and have different purposes. Probably GIMP will win, because it is more multi-purpose. However, for the purpose of creating graphics, GIMP is very inferior compared to inkscape. I know, probably there is no solution to this dilemma, because there simply aren't enough FLOSS graphics apps to make two separate polls ...
