Early in 2013 I was unsuccessfully trying to install Ubuntu 12.? Unspawn, especially, spent a lot of time trying to help me, and I never did get it installed. In the last six months, however, I've installed Linux Mint, and it does nearly everything I need, with the sole exception of using my scanner for which there isn't a Linux driver.
Above all, using Linux is fun, and I enjoy the 'atmosphere' of surfing LQ. My thanks to everyone involved.
in 1997 I successfully installed Red hat and came to the conclusion they have no clue what they are doing. So Slackware
was the thing for me from then on No windows machine ever again. As for your scanner learning Linux would have gave you a good idea how to run those scanner drivers under a wrapper. That said I am glad you found open source community the way to go.
Thank you to those who replied to my original thread, and especially to rokytnji for the googlubuntu link - I shall now go to have a look at it. I've been using Opera for a couple of days, and find that very satisfactory.
rokytnji I like your motto!
