Just got my 4th generation IPod working. Here is what I did.

Downloaded YamIPod from

http://www.yamipod.com/main/modules/downloads/

went in terminal and

cd Desktop/yam-linux

sudo cp libfmodex.so.4.00.3 /usr/lib

using synaptic i installed libstdc++5. libstdc++6 is allready installed but need 5 installed for it to work. Have had no conflicts so far.

With that done all you need to do is doubleclick Yamipod. I got a warning about using a newer version of itunes. It asked if I wanted to continue. I chose to do so, and then it all popped up. I have no speakers on this linux desktop at thsi time but I clicked on an acc file and got no errors and no hang up. So there it is thought I would share.

I've got a 4GB mini. . . iPods are sweet!

Anyways, I checked out the site but I still don't understand - what's YamiPod do? What's the benefit? Is it something like iPodLinux where you can use your iPod to make recordings and stuff?

yamipod is a program that allows you to put your music onto your ipod. I have never gotten any other program to work as good as this.

This link shows some of what it does and what it looks like when you do it. I have jsut gotten it working so have not played with it a whole lot at this time. I did notice after a bit that I have trouble unmounting it. I will try to get that fixed sometime and post what I did. But other then that it's nice to have my ipod on linux.

From their description it sounded to me like it was actually something you install directly onto the iPod. Thanks for clearing that up!

Have you ever tried GTKPod? That's what I use, and it works good for me - it automounts my iPod, and it can also read the ID3 tags on my MP3's - and it also has support for making every file play at the same sound level but I've never tried using that feature.
