Smile A Linux love story

Well I am an Ecuadorian who is using Linux almost all the time. I have a girl friend who lives in Tampa and she spend her vacations here in Ecuador. She is half Ecuadorian half "gringa".

She is a teacher for 5th and 6th grades. So I give her as a present to linux live cds designed for kids: pequelin (spanish distribution) and freeduc

Anyway she had to left to the states and we were supposed to chat one day. That day I receive an email from her saying that their windows computer had a virus and she wouldn't be available to chat because she had to use the Internet on a city library.

So when I receive that email that first thing that came to my mind is use one of that live cd. They are a full operating system. And because she has an dsl connection over there no configuration would be requiere. Maybe the bios so that the computer can boot from a cd. I explain her how to do that and the next day I receive and email saying that she has Internet from the house. Then I explain her to use gaim for chat. And she configured it by her self.

Now he chat very frequently. And the funny thing is that she has fight with her sister to see who uses the computer. And from what I hear they use the live cd all the time.

There is Linux making people happy.

The final test for my girlfriend will be if she's willing to switch to Linux. There's only two problems with that.

1. I don't have a girlfriend. (Moving to college should fix that).
2. I can't connect to the internet in Linux yet. (That should be solved eventually).

Well I do have a girldfriend (finally). And would make her change to linux on december when I go to Tampa. She has an old laptop with windows 98. I would rescue that machine for her with Linux. I guess Mandrake would do it:

It is cool she still uses the live cd. That cd is having much more use than what I thought. That is good for linux and that is good for me
