Let myself introduce....myself?!

Hello LQ Nerds!

I've played with Linux/Unix on and off for awhile, but I have finally decided to grow a set and do a clean Linux only install on my new power computer that I just bought (still has the protective plastic cover on the LCD screen (silverstone box) )

AMD64 Quad-core
ATI Radeon HD 3870 video card
1TB Western Dig. SATA hard drive
8Gb RAM
LG Super Multi Blue DVD writer
Silverstone home theater case

Still looking into which distro I want( kubuntu, fedora, ubuntu, openSuse, etc.....I do a lot of CFD analysis and I also want one that handles the multi-media experience well.

I tried a couple and have had some problems...I'll ask the specific questions in the right place. Hopefully I can get this thing up and running, I'm itchin' to take it for a spin.

Later,
NASA Nerd

Welcome to LQ As far as multimedia apps, all the distros are pretty equal. Some will be easier than others to set up and run. From memory, Linux Mint (based off Ubuntu I believe, which is further based off Debian) is geared towards multimedia from the outset.
