May be a bit. I myself am in that transitional phase (i am dual booting). However, be ready to be hit my a bit more compelxity than windows. Finding replacemenent software can sometimes be a problem but generally there are replacements avaiable. If not, most of windows Software can be run with wine etc.

It sure takes a bit of learning time but then its worth it. If you are not sure, pick one of the live CD's Kubuntu,Knoppix etc and look at what linux feels like. If you like it , you may shift. The choice of distribution also depends. It takes a bit of fooling around to find one that is more to your taste, but then thats what linux is about, having more choice....

Well, I think it really depends on what you need from your pc and how willing you are to change your habits. Suggestion is to try a distribution which comes with a live cd, so you can try linux without any install on your pc. If you like it, and you have enough space in your hard drive, you can partition your pc in order to have both windows and linux.

I know your next question: "which distro should I use"? That really depends on your needs and your taste... you better give a look at www.distrowatch.com

Start with Ubuntu or Mandriva One, these are both friendly for new users
