Hello from Melbourne, Australia
Well after a very long and confusing debian install, i've finally got my first decent dual boot set up going. I was procrastinating about my studies (i'm a uni student) and thought the perfect way to do that would be to install linux on the small 20GB slave drive.
First I did it with the debian net inst, and then realised that i needed to download a program to use the cable internet which was impossible (you might be seeing the paradox) so then i just d/led the first two cd's of the distro and away i went.
The first day I was using it thinking how hard it was, then i went to bed thinking that it was actually perfectly logical, then i woke up and realised it was both.
Anyway I'm just using it as a desktop thing, so far i'm very impressed with how customisable it is. And using debians apt-get function is so cool. you just download whatever you want and its all free.
The reason i joined this forum is cos there was a very useful answer by a member (who's name i think was spike) about installing .deb files.
Welcome! You don't have to fill anything in your profile. On the other hand, showing your distribution is a good idea when you ask a question and forget to write about your distro
