Setting up a AP with madwifi, need some clarification

I got madwifi running on my linksys card but I would like to know the next steps to getting it to act as an access point. I have two 10/100 NICs in the router, eth1 & ppp0. Outbound connections come in on eth1 then through squid for port 80 traffic or through iptables for the firewall then out to ppp0. There is no DHCP server since I hate dynamic IPs, and so does bandwidth limiting.

I am under the impression that I get bridge tools, bring down eth0 and ath0 set both to 0.0.0.0, create a bridge with both interfaces, then assign the IP I used for eth1 to br0.

Do I have this correct?

I got my wired computers working while the wireless is bridged in but the laptops can't find it using XP or netstumbler. What can I do to bring this online as an access point?

ifcfg-ath0 contents:
DEVICE=ath0
ONBOOT=yes
BOOTPROTO=static
IPADDR=192.168.1.200
NETMASK=255.255.255.0
GATEWAY=192.168.1.1
HWADDR=00:0F:66:11:BF:C6
ESSID="7410"
KEY=f3b3b3f3f3b3
MODE=Managed
RATE=auto
IWPRIV="authmode 2"

iwconfig ath0 dumps this:

ath0 IEEE 802.11 ESSID:"7410" Nickname:"phobos.homenet.lan"
Mode:Managed Frequency:5.2GHz Access Point: FF:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF
Bit Rate:6Mb/s Tx-Power:50 dBm Sensitivity=0/3
