Hello,
I just finished to configure my tiny WiFi network one linux router and one "user" linux box. Both are connected through WiFi network connection. I'm currently using two
Linksys WMP54G PCI cards. I got it running quite quickly using the ndiswrapper driver
(beta version 0.4). And its working quite well ... Except for one thing : the output of the
command "iwconfig wlan0" is telling me that i'm using 802.11b :
wlan0 IEEE 802.11b ESSID:"Barnabé_Net"
Mode:Ad-Hoc Frequency:2.462GHz Cell: 6E:33:3F:A3:AF
7
Bit Rate=54Mb/s Tx-Power:14 dBm
RTS thr=2347 B Fragment thr=2346 B
Encryption key:xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xx Security mode:restricted
Power Management
ff
Link Quality:100/100 Signal level:-33 dBm Noise level:-256 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
Tx excessive retries:20690 Invalid misc:81975 Missed beacon:0
Thats a bad news since my card is supposed to be 802.11g compatible ! I'm using
also the following command : "iwconfig wlan0 rate 54M", simply hoping that it will boost
a bit the speed of the connection, but iwconfig is still telling me that I'm using 802.11b
protocol and some speed tests are showing me a maximum speed of 2 megabytes/s which is closer to 11Mbps than to 54Mbps !!!
Then, you probably already guessed my questions :
Is there a magic command to enable 802.11g ?
Is ndiswrapper 802.11g able ?
Is there anyone on earth that managed to enable 802.11g with a WMP54G card ?
Thank you !
