IPW2200 & Mandrake 10.1 Official question

I decided to update my version of Mandrake the other day; to my surprise, it installed a new set of drivers for my Intel 2200BG wireless card and the card no longer worked. After trying to figure out what was wrong with the thing for a few hours, I figured out that the firmware was not included with the ipw2200 driver that Mandrake shipped with 10.1 Official (ipw2200 v .7 I think). So I went and got the firmware, and my card is working again. (It took me a while to figure that out; perhaps it could be of help to someone else.)

However, considering that the latest version of ipw2200 is much more recent than .7, how would I remove ipw2200 v .7 from the kernel tree so that I could compile a higher version of ipw back into it?

Help would be appreciated! Thank you.
