How to restart wifi card?

Every now and again my eth0 will go crazy and says can not go into scanning mode. I'll not be able to connect to my AP unless I restart the whole computer. For some strange reasons it can detect my AP sometimes but it cannot connect to it unless I restart my computer.

It will sometimes say eth0: no IPv6 routers present in dmesg. I'm connected but I have no internet at all.

I've tried

ifconfig down
iwconfig eth0 mode managed
and when i try "ifconfig up" it will say device / resources not ready.

The card wouldn't work until I restart my computer. I have tried switching on / off the wifi switch but I still get the same problem.

Anyone know a better way to restart the card instead of the whole computer?

You can try;

ifdown eth0
iwconfig eth0 mode managed
ifup eth0

Or, as root; service network restart

You might want to edit your config file for the wireless device, for example;

TYPE=Wireless
DEVICE=eth0
HWADDR=
BOOTPROTO=dhcp
NETMASK=255.255.255.0
GATEWAY=The router's internel IP address here
DHCP_HOSTNAME=
IPADDR=
DOMAIN=
ONBOOT=no
ONHOTPLUG=yes
USERCTL=yes
IPV6INIT=no
PEERDNS=no
ESSID=
CHANNEL=1
MODE=managed
RATE=Auto
