Unhappy error msg- Cannot get driver information: No Such Device using Ndiswrapper on fedora1

I am using a belkin F5D7000 wireless card with ndiswrapper on fedora core 1.

I have installed the ndiswrapper and driver as detailed in the instructions that came with ndiswrapper.

When i run the command iwconfig, i get the following

wlan0

When i run the command ifconfig, i get this output.

However when i run the command ifup wlan0 , i get the error message:

Cannot get driver information: No such device

Determining IP information for wlan0...Fail.

Please give ideas on how i can remedy this.

Thanks.

From your iwconfig output, your card is correctly configured. However from your ifconfig output you don't have an IP address assigned to wlan0. That is why your ifup wlan0 is complaining. There are a couple of things to do. First, take down your eth0 with ifdown eth0. If you have interfaces running at the same time it can cause problems. Second, get an IP address for your wireless with dhclient wlan0. If you get an IP address you should be able to see it with your ifconfig command. Then bring up wlan0.

You should wait 24 hours before bumping your post, and then a nice polite "bump" will do quite nicely.

OK, so my math sucks. The fact remains that you missed the most important part of my message

Please post the error. It might shed a clue on what is going wrong. Also, have you disabled eth0 when you try to get an IP for wlan0?

The other thing to try would be to set a static IP address with ifconfig. If you do this, be sure to also set the gateway IP address to point to your router with the route command.

Ugh. I've seen people with FC have this problem before, and unfortunately I haven't come across any solid answers. The symptoms are the same, the card can be properly configured but DHCP can't seem to connect. I honestly don't know if it is a FC configuration problem or if there is some incompatibility with ndiswrapper. There are a few things you could try however:

- Try a different version of ndiswrapper, particularly if you are using version 0.8. I have seen people fail miserably with 0.8 only to have 0.7 work on the first go. Others have no trouble with 0.8.

-Try a different Windows driver. If you are using the latest XP drivers, they may stand a higher chance of giving ndiswrapper fits.

- Try linuxant. Sometimes this works where ndiswrapper fails.

[snip]
I was browsing LQ.org and saw your post. I solved this *just* a matter of minutes ago on FC2 with an Intel 2200 b/g under ndiswrapper-0.8. Have yet to write a script that does this cleanly, but here's a rough procedure:

Set up ndiswrapper & bring up iwconfig.
Take down other interfaces (eth0) and remove the default route.
dhclient is borked because it looks for /etc/dhclient-${INTERFACE}.conf, not /etc/dhclient.conf. Create the former file accordingly.
Also create /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-wlan0 containing the lines

DEVICE=wlan0
ONBOOT=no
BOOTPROTO=dhcp
IPADDR=
NETMASK=
GATEWAY=

Try issuing 'dhclient wlan0'. Just a guess here, as I had done a bunch of other things earlier that left the system scanning for hosts.
Watch your system logfile, and suddently I got a connection when I saw the line

dhclient: bound to xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx -- renewal in XX seconds.

help

I am having problems setting up my wireless card. Here are some details

laptop: Dell d800
wireless card: Intel/Pro 2200BG
OS: Fedora Core 2

I have tried ndiswrapper version 8 and 9 but the system hangs and I can't do anything.
I am currently using ndiswrapper version 7 (I saw some saying that it worked for them as opposed to version 9 that hangs).
I got the driver from the ndiswrapper. There are two, a generic one from Intel and another from dell. The dell driver cases errors that I can see from /var/log/messeges. The other loads everything fine. Here are my steps after I compiled ndiswrapper version 7.

>ndiswrapper -i <path-to-w22n51.inf>
I checked and there are no errors at this point
>modprobe ndiswrapper
>iwconfig

When I check the /var/log/messeges There is an error saying can't find wlan0 configuration and if I try to set the essid and recheck iwconfig there are not changes. Also, if I try to set the key, I get segmentation fault and I have restart the computer.

I have also ran

>ndiswrapper -m

I have tried just about everything I found, including bringing down the eth0, puting ifcfg-wlan0 in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts, different versions of ndiswrapper, different drivers from intel and dell, BUT NO LUCK, PLEASE HELP.

Thank you in advance
