I currently have a D-Link DWL-520 Rev. D and haven't even tried making it work after my fiasco with the winmodem. I've decided that it will remain in a Windows machine, but I still need one for my Linux box.
What is an 802.11b card that is relatively easy to install and configure? I have PCI and ISA slots, though I might update to a motherboard without ISA...
OK, after some searching around, I noticed that a USB adapter that I already have on another computer, the MA111, is listed as a Prism2 card. Has anyone had any experience with this adapter? How was it?
OK, I already have one of these on another computer and so I disconnected it and attempted to install it on the Linux one. I'm new to Linux, so could someone walk me through the correct procedure? I attempted to use the driver provided at Linux-WLAN (or something like that) but got totally lost. There was a guide I used here that did not work at all after the installation of the driver.
Please help. I want to get away from Windows somewhat.
Well, like I say, you should already have those modules built and ready sitting in /lib/modules/uname -a..... Seems like you would have to enable your pcmcia service on boot, and make sure you have a essid, key and info variable set somewhere by using 'iwconfig'. I know Slackware requires one other startup script to be modified (entering your Gateway address)... There shouldn't be any progs you have to install to get it to run. You should have the wireless tools already along with the modules for your card chipset.... Might want to do a general search on 'redhat and wireless setup' to get more specifics. If you were using Slackware I could help you, but your not....
