VM Player - linux instance - networking question

Long story short: Running VM Player and dropped a Debian VM. Works well, gets online. This is under Windows 7 environment.

I connect to VPN at work on the Windows side, and when I run my Debian VM, I think that VM is on the vpn.. how can I be sure? I would prefer it not be associated with my work vpn whatsoever.

I see in Windows 7 there is a separate network adapter so I thought it was separate, but I don't think that is the case.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

We may need to know what type of vpn you are on. In a very real sense a vpn is supposed to be private.

It may work if vm is in bridged mode to allow debian to connect to work. The most simple way to keep it off the vpn is to disable the network in the VM when you want to keep it offline.

VM's install a virtual network adapter. It may be called virtualbox host or vmnet1 or such.
