Post VirtualBox can't open my Pendrive in Guest OS.

Hello.
I use Oracle VirtualBox 4.3.20 on Debian 7 x64. I installed a Windows 7 as Guest and when Attached a Pendrive to Guest OS, Windows can't detect it and show an error something that Windows can't install device driver. I installed Guess addition too.
How can I solve it?

Tnx.

Does the device require a driver when plugged into a bare metal Windows 7 system?

But do you get that error with Windows 7 running on a physical system?

If you can't get it to attach correctly to the vm then you may have to use some sort of sharing with the host. Be it shared folder or something like ftp or such to access it across the two computers.

I think Jefro's approach of setting it up as a shared folder is the easiest way to go if you can't get the devices to cooperate as-is.

If you pull up the VMs configuration and go into Shared Folders it's easy to access set up a shared folder out of wherever the pen drive is mounted. It should also still give you directions on how to access the shared drive from within the Guest OS.

I don't want copy a File from my Guest to Pendrive, I want recovery my Pendrive via a Windows Application.

I see - you want to use a Windows program to recovery your pen drive?

Debian 7 probably has an ancient version of VirtualBox. Is it a USB 3.0 pendrive, as VirtualBox fairly recently just added that.

There's also Linux's testdisk and photorec which may help you recovery your data. Constantly plugging in your pen drive to mess with the VirtualBox drivers or leaving it mounted may result in the overwriting of the data you intend to recover.

Windows won't easily mount failed drives unless you try to attach the usb at the config screen instead of the attach within the running VM.

Does the drive mount correctly from Linux?

By the way, linux may let you use testdisk to try to recover files.

You could still use testdisk and photorec and still use it on Windows, if that's what you mean?

Just to make sure, is this a different drive from your other thread?

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...nt-4175562436/

If the drive mounts successfully in linux and a physical windows OS then it could be a problem with VirtualBox. Have you tried connecting other USB drives to the VB guest?

Is the device formatted with a filesystem that Windows will understand? Also, you mention the guest additions but do you have the non-free extension pack installed on the host machine?
