Ubuntu server guest on Cent OS 6.0 host.

Hi,

When installing Ubuntu 10.04 or 11.10 server 64bit as a guest in a kvm host on Cent OS 6.0, there is at performance issue running the desktop in Ubuntu. The mousepointer is very slow and its difficult to use.

Cent OS 6.0 desktop works fine as a guest on the host, no slow mouse.

Any ideas ?

Regards.

What's your .vmx? Any differences between this guest and the Centos guests .vmx? Any Timekeeping / ^sched.mem / memory sharing / debugging / caching that should be dis/enabled? How do you connect? Local VMware? VNC? Does the guest run any services that should be disabled? Do you have VMware tools installed in the guest? Try adding "noapic nolapic clocksource=pit" on the guests GRUB command line and see if that makes any difference? Also see http://vmfaq.com/?View=entry&EntryID=25 and http://vmfaq.com/entry/25/?

What is .vmx ?

I run at the moment directly on the server desktop. Haven't tried XDMCP yet...

I don't use VMWARE, use KVM i Cent OS 6.0.

What you need to do is make sure your mouse settings are set to tablet and not a normal mouse in the VM, because that's what qemu uses for mouse emulation in guests

this is a typical addition to xorg.conf, you might need to alter it to fit your needs:

Quote:
Section "ServerLayout"
Identifier "single head configuration"
Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0
InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard"
InputDevice "Tablet" "SendCoreEvents"
InputDevice "Mouse" "CorePointer"
EndSection

Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Mouse"
Driver "void"
#Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
#Option "Emulate3Buttons" "yes"
EndSection

Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Tablet"
Driver "evdev"
Option "Device" "/dev/input/event2"
Option "CorePointer" "true"
EndSection
