slackware system time is constantly 5 hrs ahead in virtualbox

i'm running slackware 14.1 in virtualbox.

I noticed that on my slackware box, the time is constantly 5hours ahead of my local time (US/EST). I had set the timezone in slackware correctly to US/EST. everytime I syncd and corrected time with 'ntpdate'. after a while, it's running ahead again.

What is the output of "date" and "date -u" on the terminal (and what is the actual local time when you ran it)? What is the host OS?

I think you need to check the "Hardware Clock in UTC Time" option:

I unchecked "Hardware Clock in UTC Time" option from virtualbox settings - system - motherboard - works now!

Odd, I assumed that Slackware assumed that the hardware was on UTC -- though the time difference you saw does make more sense the other way around.
The tip-off is the UTC offset.

slackware assumes hardware clock is set to local time instead of UTC during setup.
