Distribution: Debian derivitives switched to Mint from Ubuntu but play with them all time and brain permitting...

Question running Ubuntu 12.10 in Virtualbox under Debian 6 will it work?

Someone informed me that virtualization only allows for the host OS to run the same version number [or kernel] or previous editions [kernels] of a Distro. Forums so far haven't been helpful. True or not and any details please? thanx 1sw!

Not true.

The limiting factor might be the architecture of the host OS. i386 host restricts you running only i386 VMs, 64-bit host lets you run 64 and i386.

But you can run any OS in those VM's, including Windows, its not dependent on your running kernel version at all.
