Linux Mint 17 Qiana running in software rendering mode
Hey all
So I have Linux mint installed as a guest on Windows 7 Virtualbox and I have 3D acceleration enabled and it was working fine. Yesterday I did some recommended Linux system updates and now my Linux is running in software rendering mode. So people are saying that this is because of the update and that it happens often. So should I just wait till they fix it in an upcoming update(will they fix it?) or is there something safe I can do now? Keep in mind I'm pretty new to linux so please make any instructions thorough
Thanks in advance.
I had a similar problem with Mint 17.1 Rebecca. No matter what interface I chose, it came up in software rendering mode.
Solution that worked for me:
From Driver Manager, install fglrx-updates
From terminal window
sudo aticonfig --install
Reboot your machine.
What was the problem? I can't be sure, but there are rumors ATI has been leaving off the drivers for older cards. Install driver manually, configure, and off you go.
