Headless server virtualization error

I've been successfully using virtualbox on individual hosts for over a year. Now I'm trying to install a virtual machine on server with no gui (I'm using the virtualbox manual) and when I run the following command:

[CODE]# VBoxManage modifyvm "Windows XP" --hda "WinXP.vdi"/CODE]

I get this output:

[CODE]ERROR: Could not find a storage controller named 'IDE Controller'
Details: code VBOX_E_OBJECT_NOT_FOUND (0x80bb0001), component Machine, interface IMachine, callee nsISupports
Context: "AttachDevice(Bstr("IDE Controller"), 0, 0, DeviceType_HardDisk, uuid)" at line 556 of file VBoxManageModifyVM.cpp/CODE]

Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

It looks like you may be running into this bug:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/testdrive/+bug/495178

Can you take a look and determine if it applies?

I think it might. Do you know of a workaround, or do I need to find an older version of the non-free vbox?
