Unable to make a vmmon module that can be loaded in the running kernel:
insmod: error inserting '/tmp/vmware-config1/vmmon.o': -1 Invalid module format
There is probably a slight difference in the kernel configuration between the
set of C header files you specified and your running kernel. You may want to
rebuild a kernel based on that directory, or specify another directory.
For more information on how to troubleshoot module-related problems, please
visit our Web site at "http://www.vmware.com/download/modules/modules.html" and
"http://www.vmware.com/support/reference/linux/prebuilt_modules_linux.html".
hello
there is possibility that virtualbox would install with no problem,
Quote:

From what I can see the Kernel version is not supported by VMWare, this is not surprising given that this is I believe an unsupported version of Fedora, I believe either version 12 or 13 is the current version of Fedora, version 8 is no longer supported as far as I am aware as I believe Fedora only has either an 11 or 13 month "support" what means version 8 may have unpatched known vulnerabilities.
In my experience installing vmware requires a kernel patch. Do a google for for "vmware any-any-update" and you might find the appropriate patch for Fedora 8 but as already mentioned you have a version of Fedora that is no longer supported and so an upgrade (if possible) would be better. Fedora 13 is the latest version.
