Post XF86-desktop's screen larger than monitor's screen

my regular resolution is (1280x1024)

At lower resolutions (800-600) my desktop's screen larger than actual monitor and mouse shifts the the desktops center.

How do i stop this, and make lower resolutions the actual screens size... Like one would normally expect.

Thanks
Jeff
