XDM opens XDM after login

Now I'm not sure if XDM ever worked before as I never used it. But I installed a theme from xdm.house.cx (which just involved creating some new xdm config files). So I set it up to run at level 5 and when I enter level 5 XDM displays properly and accepts my user credentials. However upon hitting 'enter' it takes my username / password disappears for a moment and then XDM restarts. I've included the relevant lines from XDM's log... can anyone tell me what is going on and why it won't start my XFCE desktop?

Thanks in advance,
jpbarto

Got it

Alright, I didn't realize XDM used .xsession when starting X (I've been using xinit and .xinitrc). So it was trying to run software that didn't exist anymore. So that's fixed. Next thing to look into, I want to be able to shutdown and restart my machine from XDM if possible... is it?
