Just set up a new box with Gentoo (very pleased so far) and want to be able to use it remotely via ssh. I want to be able to use the full gui interface (I have installed Xfce4) on the other computers.

I'm trying to use the computer from my Mac with OSX 10.5. I can use the command line through the ssh absolutely fine. When I put the -X tag into the ssh command the mac loads up X11.app X window system program. When I type in 'startx' into the command window, X loads up on the linux box but doesn't load up on the mac.

I have enabled x11forwarding in the sshd_config file on the server

Anyone got any ideas or things they think I should try?

X11 forwarding doesn't work like that. If you want the full desktop, you need to use something like VNC. X11 is running individual applications from a remote system to your own, not the full desktop.
