Hope I'm posting this the right place.
I'm desperately trying to get STELLA (a piece of modelling software) running on my linux distribution. It's required for a course I'm presently attending at university and it's win & mac only..
I'm using version 6.01Research but an evalution edition of version 8 is available at the isee website.
My system: Ubuntu 5.04 "hoary", wine 0.0.20050419-1~5.04ubp1, winetools 2.1.1-1~5.04ubp1. I've also tried the debs from wine-hq, with the same results (versions are identical: 20050419 and 2.1.1-1).
The only way I could actually install the program was by using winetools. I have installed (with winetools, in this order): TrueType Font Arial, DCOM98, Microsoft Foundation Classes 4.0, Visual Basic 6 Runtime, Visual C++ run-time English, Windows Script 5.6 English, Common Controls 5.0, Internet Explorer 6 SP1 and all the microsoft fonts.
STELLA itself looks kinda okay until you actually start using it. The icons are rather small and there are glitches, i.e. the "main screen" doesn't refresh until you click the minimize button, but I can live with that.
Here comes the real problem;
When I want to edit an object the fonts become tiny and blurred. Furthermore the pop-up window is transparent, making it very hard to see what you're doing. Also dropdownlists (in the pop-up window) with "Required Inputs" and "Builtins" are invisible. It's strange because the fonts are readable (although too small for my liking) in the parent window.
Since it's hard to explain what it actually looks like I would've liked to give you screenshots at bristi DoT dk SlasH stella_probs DoT html (1 mb -- three 1200x1024 images) and bristi DoT dk SlasH stella_probs-cropped Dot html (16 kb -- only the pop-up window) (sorry for the inconvenience - I had only two previous posts here). Anyone got any suggestions for these problems? Are they generic for wine at the moment?
