It is very important to have more people switch from Windows, so your thread is very useful. For the time being it seems that only Freecell and Solitaire are easy to port under WINE.
The GIMP is excellent, but not sufficiently simple for occasional users, so something like Photoshop Elements or Paintshop Pro would be nice.
Many tax software suppliers have an on line connection so you can access the software from any platform. The trend seems to be going the other way, for instance QuickTax (I'm in Canada) no longer supplies a disk for Mac.
MS Office runs OK under wine, Access runs ok as long as the dbf is very simple & doesn't contain any vba coding.

I would like to see VB6 but that will never happen, heh. I would also like to see Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Flash, all the tools I need for web site designing...

Helpful hints:
* Try searching. You will probably find your question is already answered - multiple times - and thusly get the answer you are looking for right away -- no waiting!
* Read the stickies
* Want to know which distro is right for you? Try several. Check out distrowatch. Read the stickies.
* Want people to take you seriously? Drop the 1337 5p34k. Yesterday. It ceased to be cool 11 years ago.
* it is always better to post in an existing thread than to start a new one. See
Ok, I'll admit to being terminogically challenged.
1137 5p34k = Leet Speak aka elite peak. Refers to use of acronyms & codespeak that wouldn't be understood by newbie chatters/hackers. Thus sayeth the Wikipedia.
-----------------------------------------
I want to see an open source small portable multimedia designer proggy - like Flash. Ideally, it'd read Flash&swf files & be capable of editing them.
Ideally, it'd be part of Open Office, and they'd have a webdesigner that kicked Dreamweaver's butt to the curb.
Barring that, I want to see the entire Macromedia Suite ported to Linux.
If anyone is working on a Flash-type proggy, please let me know. Could possibly add some audio input (10 years worth of pro sound & studio engineering audio stupidity at your service).

Flashplaer is out for Firefox under the Linux platform. I have not reinstalled it yet.
Yeah - I watch Flashtoons on my Linuxbox regularly - though it is a bit choppy, the audio isn't quite as well synched as on my 'Doze box, but I suspect that has almost as much to do with me not knowing more about the audio software & drivers on Linux as it does with the ported player.
What I'm really looking for is a flash-type DESIGN program for writing toons and movies. Especially toons - Flash has revolutionized home media production, and there's nothing that compares in the way of substitutes. The portability of Flash files makes them incredibly shareable - which is one of the driving notions behind opensource software.
Multimedia web and Multimedia information exchange is the next important logical step toward building opensource society.

have you tried POVRay Modler yet?? I just started playing with it, so I am not too sure how it works. It looks really nice and the program comes pre installed on Slackware 10.1 and Iam looking forward to Slackware 10.2, as it looks like it will be out on the horizon soon.
I am still awaiting the response to my request for Activeworlds to be setup on Linux so I can get back on there. I do not wish to waste my Cit there just lying around.
An OCR Package in Linux, whose output would be consistent with that of it's MS-Windows' OCR Packages and also would like to see openoffice.org writer support all the advanced features of MS-Word. When I use MS-Word and put 2 jpeg logos side by side, then copy it to my RHEL3 box and then use openoffice.org writer, the jpeg files sit on top of each other and are inseparable.
If this is done, it will help the data conversion centres (using OCR Packages to convert from PDF to Word Doc format) as most of these are using Windows Platform and I want to use RHEL and keep the consistency on. Otherwise, I am forced to be on Windows for eternity

What features are you referring to? If there are any features you would like to see in OOo, you can always file feature requests on the OpenOffice.org website, where developers will consider the request for future versions.
Lets see Programs, most are here and open office is my next test. I have a copy of Staroffice here somewhere. As for support iof this OS in it's many Configurations, Intrinsic Interoperability, (eg: All these Variants of Linux work in unison)
As a new user to Linux, yes a lot better documentation on the How tos with this Linux thing.
Better sound Support with a more Reasonable setup, as my SBLive24 Bit only has an out now, yet it has a SPIDF and it mimics an input for a Mic or Line Input on that "Other" os. I got the latest from Soruceforge but something got messed up on the building of the driver set. so not too sure what I did to mess that up.
And of course the 3dchat.org make a 3dchat that works with JRE 1.5.0.1 and nto an older version for linux.
Or better yet Activeworlds 3dChat come out with a Linux version, as I am a paid cit there and want to be able to gt back there and help those I have been helping. They all chart with me on Kopete using the Yahoo messenger and I am really missed there because of all the help and things I have done.
As of today I have not even heard a peep to any news on if they will even think of porting it.
rick@activeworlds.com and jp@activeworlds.com are the addy's so if you had an account there and lost it because you movced to a better os, e-mail them and let them know, so you can get back online there and be with all the friends you made while there.
