Updating my kernel, and RHN give probs

Hi,

I've download a new kernel, kernel-2.4.20-20.8.i686.rpm but if I do rpm -ivh it give no problems, after installing a new rpm (for NTFS mounting) it's saying the kernel is not installed, but I saw 100% complete. If I do it again it says already installed. What do I wrong ?

If I want to try to update my stystem trough up2date I see the error

There was an SSL error: [('SSL routines', 'SSL3_GET_SERVER_CERTIFICATE', 'certif
icate verify failed')]

Someone know how to fix that?!

Greets and thanks for help

you've got two problems:
1) RNH certificate expired. Remove existing up2date and install new ones from redhat:
rpm -e up2date up21date-gnome
wget http://updates.redhat.com/9/en/os/i3...3.2-1.i386.rpm
wget http://updates.redhat.com/9/en/os/i3...3.2-1.i386.rpm
rpm -ihv up2date*

Second issue is your kernel (unrelated to first problem).
1) try to upgrade rpm, not install
rpm -Uvh kernel.....rpm
2) Then, you may have to reboot to begin to use the new kernel. I hate rebooting by linux box, nearly never do it. But new kernels is one of the few times it's necessary...

If i do that I'll get this error I dont understand :

Code:
[root@linuxmuts rpm]# rpm -e up2date up21date-gnome
error: package up21date-gnome is not installed
error: Failed dependencies:
        up2date = 3.0.7 is needed by (installed) up2date-gnome-3.0.7-1
up2date is needed by (installed) firstboot-1.0.1-10
/usr/share/rhn/RHNS-CA-CERT is needed by (installed) rhn-applet-2.0.0-2

OK - skip the rpm -e step and do:
rpm -Uhv up2date*
with the new up2date RPMs
