Updating glibc - from source

I need to update the glibc package from source, and I'm looking for a review on how to do it safely. Details appreciated...

My plan is this:
  1. Move Copy? the contents of /lib and /usr/lib (Any others?) to another directory such as, say, /usr/glibc222.
  2. Add this directory to the top (end?) of /etc/ld.so.conf and run /sbin/ldconfig -v.
  3. Do a make install on the glibc, with TARGET=/usr.
  4. Run ldconfig again.
What am I omitting? Anything?
