Unreal Tournament 2004

i'm dual booting linux suse 9.3 and windows xp and have Unreal Tournament 2004 installed on windows xp on a fat 32 partition.

i want to install Unreal Tournament 2004 on linux as well but dont want to give up another 5 GB's of hard drive space

question is how can i make a linux UT2004 system folder that uses all the maps and sound files ect ect from the windows UT2004 dir

i was thinking of installing it on linux then remane the system folder in the games dir to system_windows and then copy the games system folder made in linux over on the fat32 partition, so i would just rename the system folder when i wanted to play on either system.

anyone got a better idea as i'm new to linux. thanks

What you can do is install UT2K4 in Linux. Then compare the files to the windows version. If they are the same, you can delete the directories (maps, sounds, music, textures, system, help, and many other directories) that is under ut2004. Fourth, make symbolic links under ut2004 that points to UT2K4 directory from the FAT32 partition.

I have never tried it but I did a lot of similar jobs just like this for UT2KGOTY.

yes thats a better option might give it a go if i cant start ut2004 in windows or get fed up changing files all the time.

i already did it my way but just installed over the top of the original install, I copied the system folder before this but not had a chance to test it in windows yet, but works fine in linux and had all the setting in place from the user.ini

i think the only file i might have to change to get it working in windows is the user.ini file to change back to directX instead of openGL

just reinstall unreal tournement in linux to your windows partition in the same directory that u installed in windows

PS: If u use fat32 partition fot windows there is no problem but if u use ntfs partiton for xp then u should set up your kernel to see ntfs partitions.
It's a little hard to get it worked.

thanks cb951303 but as i said in my previous post thats what i did. Its a fat32 partition (windows and the movie partition are still ntfs for security and large file support). my understanding is linux cannot write to ntfs only read. i think they are working on it though

i have now tested it in winows xp, using the original system folder works fine. had errors when using the system folder that linux was installed in.

also i dont have to keep renaming the folder as i can just rename the linux system folder to "linux system" and then change the ut2004 shell script from

# Set the home if not already set.
if [ "${UT2004_DATA_PATH}" = "" ]; then
UT2004_DATA_PATH="`FindPath $0`/System"

to

# Set the home if not already set.
if [ "${UT2004_DATA_PATH}" = "" ]; then
UT2004_DATA_PATH="`FindPath $0`/linux System"

all works fine i'm getting good at this i never have this much fun in windows
