uname kernel version

HI,
I compiled my first 2.6.4 kernel from 2.4.22 or something and uname shoed the right kernel version. Please refer to the following post of how I booted 2.6.4 from the floppy

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...581#post864581

Now when I boot it purely from a RH9 floppy ir says that my kernel is of the older version.
