unable to put file 4GB file INSIDE iso

Hi,

I have one large file (4 GB) that I want to back up to a DVD. I *don't* want to split the big file into pieces of < 2GB. mkisofs gives this error and creates an empty iso:
Code:
mkisofs: Value too large for defined data type. File bak01/hddbackup1.bak is too large - ignoring
Someone please help me store the 4GB file to a DVD. How do I make mkisofs store the 4GB file inside a ISO? This is not a limitation of the file system where I store the ISO. I use ext3 and I have several files >2GB in the same partition. Is this a limitation of the ISO9660 format? Is there some other format I could use to store a 4GB file in a DVD. If so what tools should I use? I don't care about windows compatibility.

Thanks,
Sarav

I believe DVD's use the UDF filesystem, and this may be what needs mounted.
Try the manpage of mkudffs if it's available, and click here if it's not. I'm interested in how this turns out...

Hi,

Of what size should I create a file on disk to use it as a device for mkudffs? A DVD is 4.7 GB but how big should the UDF image file be exactly in bytes for it to fit a DVD? Should I mount the empty UDF device, copy the file over, and umount it to create a good image file I can write using xcdroast?

A good how-to for using mkudffs would be helpful.

Thanks,
Sarav
