ubuntu 10.4 grub set default kernel to boot

A recent kernel upgrade broke nvidia and the network card. I figured out how to get the grub boot menu, but am having trouble figuring out how to set the default kernel to boot. I believe there used to be a file called /boot/grub/menu.lst that one could edit, but it doesn't appear to exist now.

Thanks.

That was (legacy) grub - the Ubuntu devs decided you'd like to use beta software as your bootloader; grub2.
Have a read of this.

Thanks!

>>The default entry is determined by the DEFAULT= setting in /etc/default/grub; the first "menuentry" has a value of "0".

then run update-grup as root.

Looks like they've expanded the number of files and spread them across the file system. Kinda makes me nostalgic for the days of lilo.
