Trying to install Licq: autom4te gives an error

Hello, world
I posted this question in another thread which is , perhaps, too old to drag somebody's attention. So, I created a new one.

I'm trying to install licq on Slackware 12. This is what I'm supposed to do according to the installation guide:
1. Unpack the package
2. ./configure --prefix=/path/where/to/install
3. make && make install
4. cd plugins/qt-gui
5. make -f Makefile.cvs
6. ./configure --prefix=/path/where/to/install
7. make && make install

At step 5, I get the following:
/usr/share/aclocal/nspr.m4:8: warning: underquoted definition of AM_PATH_NSPR
run info '(automake)Extending aclocal'
or see http://sources.redhat.com/automake/a...ending-aclocal
/usr/share/aclocal/imlib.m4:9: warning: underquoted definition of AM_PATH_IMLIB
/usr/share/aclocal/imlib.m4:167: warning: underquoted definition of AM_PATH_GDK_IMLIB
/usr/share/aclocal/audiofile.m4:12: warning: underquoted definition of AM_PATH_AUDIOFILE
/usr/share/aclocal/aalib.m4:12: warning: underquoted definition of AM_PATH_AALIB
autom4te: need GNU m4 1.4 or later: /usr/bin/m4
aclocal: autom4te failed with exit status: 1
make: *** [all] Error 1

AFAIUI, this has to do with autoconf. I downloaded the automake and autoconf packages and installed them with pkgtool. Tried steps 1-5 all over again and still the same error. Any help will be greately appreciated.

I found the solution to the problem. Autom4te needs m4 to be installed in /usr/bin/. In my system it was installed in /usr/local/bin. I created a symlink in /usr/bin pointing at /usr/local/bin and everything went flawlessly.

Slackware comes with a m4-package that installs to /usr. It's in the "d" folder on your Slackware CD/DVD.

I don't see anything what looks like m4 in /usr. Maybe I didn't choose this package when installing Slack.

Probably. It installs to /usr, like you needed it.
