Trouble Installing Most rpm's on Redhat 9
I am quiet new to linux, and after trying a lot of distros i finally really like redhat 9. So ive got the basics near enough of linux. CLI etc. I am having a lot of very frustrating problems when trying to install rpm's. I find a program on the net that i want, download the xxxxx.i386.rpm file to my hard disk. double click the file, the installer comes up and either says i have everything i need to install and i ckick continue, then it goes off and installs something then goes. Thats all very well but where on earth has it install the program ???. I have tryed looking for it but havnt got a clue were it is. I have also tryed this by right clicking the file and saying open with installer, same happens. Also i have given the CLI a go, goes fine but says package is already installed, yeh but were and how do i get it to run. Another problem i have, and this doesnt happen with all rpm's, is when i try to install the rpm the program installer appears for a few seconds, the just disappears and i cannot find any trace of program. This is really starting to annoy me now because i hav'nt used Windows for a few weeks now and i think this problem is one thats making me think i wish i had windows (That why i come back to you guys for assistance because im really enjoying redhat and dont want windows back). Any help i would really appreciate.
