I did download the souce from: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.o...tk2+xft.tar.gz
Then extract them to my home dir. When I open the folder, I see no ./configure file, thus I cannot make "make" file.
So I went to look for RPM source instead.
I am really sorry if my explanation above is not clear, I am a total newbie. Can you guide me on how to compile from source?
Thanks for your reply. At this moment the folder(with its content) Thunderbird is at my home dir. Do I have to move it to "/usr/local/thunderbird/thunderbird", the after I moved it, which Icon that I should click to fire up Thunderbird?
As far as I know, based on Redhat it's better in /usr/local so that all users of the PC have access, if you still have your original tar.gz file just delete it from your home dir and unpack it again into /usr/local this will keep things tidy, to do this you will probably have to log on as root
To launch you can either modify the path of your original mail icon or create a new launcher, I'm using Gnome to do this right click on the desktop, choose new Launcher, fill in the details
Thank you soooo much. It is Working now. Boy....what a hassle. I've spent the whole mornming try to figure out how to install it. Man..Mozilla should think about newbies when releasing new builds.
Actually, I was using Sylpheed for my email client. But to use it on regular and extensive basis, it's just too troublesome. Too complicated. As for FireFox, actually I am using it, it's just, it wasn't me who installed FireFox on this machine, but someone else. So I just have no clue how to install it.
I guess you are already familiar with FireFox and Thunderbird, aren't you? I hope you don't mind me asking about one small problem I'm having with both programs. The text font on both program is so damn small I can barely see the title of any icons. The text font which I am talking about is not the font within the email message but underneath the Icon Ie: "Get Mail". Is there anyway I can enlarge the font so that it is visible?
Thanks for the patience in answering my questions.
That font size is controlled within either Gnome or Kde. I'm only familiar with Gnome, there are font options in preferences, I am at work now please reply and I will try to advise you later
Sadly, I am using KDE. Are you still able to find out how? FYI, I am using SuSe.
Thanks Pete. BTW, Thunderbird is awesome. Way much better than Sylpheed.
As for the font issue I truly have no idea how to change the size in KDE in fact I have been playing with KDE for the last couple of hours with no luck, can do it in Gnome in seconds
The option in Gnome is to change Application font size
My only advise is to start a new forum topic and see if anybody else knows, would like to know myself
