Spam Assassin Memory Drain

I'm using the latest released version of all software involved (Squirrel Mail, Spam Assassin, Linux, etc.). Whenever Spam Assassin processes an email, my CPU usage temporarily spikes to near 100%, but the real problem is my memory usage. I have a gig of memory installed. But while Spam Assassin is processing email, the memory usage continues to climb to about 98% used. Then it stays there for several minutes before beginning to drop after Spam Assassin is idle for a minute or two.

At this time I'm only testing with three email accounts. Eventually I'll be supporting close to 1000 boxes when the server goes live.

Has anyone else experienced this memory drain problem when using Spam Assassin? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I think you should be going to http://wiki.apache.org/spamassassin/MailingLists to check out the mailing lists and ask this question there you will probably get a better response and hopefully you have an extremely fast processor in the box because spamassassin is a pig. When the spamd runs on my system here it uses about 50% CPU, never had any problem with memory leaks though perhaps that is a problem with some of the other software in the chain.
