Sound problems with Microsoft Teams

These days I have to rely on Microsoft Teams to communicate with my colleagues. We regularly have online meetings and use the online conferencing mode of Microsoft Teams.

However somehow I don't seem to get the sound right. The others complain that my speech comes out soft and garbled. I have tried using an external microphone on my laptop, a separate Logitech web cam with build-in microphone and the build-in microphone.

I run Ubuntu 19.10 with Gnome. I tried using the "Sound Input & Output Device Chooser by kgshank" to switch between sound sources, however it does not seem to make a change although I do seem to be able to choose different sound sources in Teams.

I also tried using my iPhone over the same wifi network and that worked good. However I don't like to use my phone because people use to call me as well.

Does anyone know a solution. I once used SoundFlower on the Mac, however I don't know about such a mixer for Linux. Thanks!

Have you tried adjusting levels via the PulseAudio 'pavucontrol' GUI?
