Angry Segmentation Error

I have a very strange problem on my Red Hat 9 system:

I get a 'Segmentation error" whenever I try to:

- start a KDE-program
- start a Windows-program with Wine

I reinstalled first Wine, then KDE, Gnome, X and my Linux-kernel (from the RPM's from the installation cd-rom), but nothing helps.

Any idees?

Maarten

Check to see what libraries those programs have in common (probably X libraries) and try to reinstall them from another source (maybe there's something corrupted?)

'Segmentation fault' is the only thing you can see.

I think it started after I tried to install de nVidia drivers. First I downloaded the binaries fromt the nVidia website, but that didn't work so I tried it with the .tar.gz files. Than I read in the Red Hat 9 Release Notes that Red Hat 9 had problems with the nVidia drivers, zo I removed them and adapted my xf86config file with redhat-config-xfree86. I think it was then that the troubles started.

Look at this post:

it's exactly the same problem. Looks like Red Hat has a serious problem here. Perhaps that's why they prefer Gnome?
