Running Skype on a headless system?

Hi folks, I'm getting interested in Skype, but can't find all the info I need. It would be great if I could just plug it into my headless server, which is always on, but it seems that Skype does not run without a GUI.

Now here's my question: Don't some of the newer Skype phones have their own gui's built in? They say you can see who's online by picking up the reciever, use it to switch to your usual landline, etc. If that's so, do you really need the GUI on the computer if you can interface using the phone?

If not, I might just shell out for one of those really new ones that have linux embedded in the phone itself, and plug directly into your router. Cool stuff, but kinda €€.

Thanks for the info.
