"Run program" in KDE4 behaves strangely (look-up function works sometimes, not always

The "Run program" window that pops up when I hit Alt-F2 behaves strangely in that it sometimes is just a "plain" window that don't use some kind of look-up when I type in commands, other times it is "fancier" (black) with the look-up feature. Why is that?

The fancy black one is KDE's "krunner", while the less fancy one is the GTK version ("gtk-runner") -- there's another thread around here, in the Slackware forum, where a few other members were discussing this very thing recently. See if you can find that thread, as I cannot recall what resolution or conclusion it came to, if any.

If you cannot find it, post back here and I'll see if I can find it.
