RedHat 9 install onto compaq server
I am working on setting up RedHat 9 onto a Compaq Proliant 5000 with dual Pent Pro 200s and 256mb of RAM. I have a RAID card with 4 hdds attached in RAID 5 array. However the first problem I have found is that Compaqs only report having 16mb of ram by default. I have been able to get RedHat 6.1 to install as it only needs 16mb of ram to install. If I do the command linux mem=256M on setup I get the following errors before it just stops:
VFS: Cannot open root device "" or 48:05
Please append a correct "root=" boot option
Kernel panic: VFS Unable to mount root fs on 48:05
I would really like to do a network install as I do not have the cds ready to use but that is a side issue.
I would really like to do a clean install of Redhat 9 as doing an upgrade from RedHat 6.1 will take quite some time and is a really big step up.
Please Help
