REAL Player Codecs for MPlayer

I'm using Mandriva 2005 LE and I use MPlayer to watch all of my video files, and it of course is embedded into Firefox so that I can watch imbedded videos without having to copy and paste the url of the video into the movie player itself. Anyway, I have every single codec that I can think of except for real player codecs. I can play .avi files, .wmv files and everything I can find except for Real files. I only need them because I like to go to www.weather.com and watch the weather videos there and they requre real player codecs. I have checked the mplayer website and it doesn't have real media codecs. Suggestions?

Go to the Mplayer download page and in the codec section
select "other binary codec packages" , from there download "all" .
That will give you all of them.

You also must be sure that your browser plugin knows what to do.

http://mplayerplug-in.sourceforge.net/

http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.o...illa/releases/

have you compiled mplayerplug-in? you dont have to be root to compile and install this plugin, just do it in your home directory - it will install to ~/.mozilla/plugins. and you must also get gecko-sdk from mozilla's ftp...

why not install realplayer? bin file readily and freely available from real.com. hey they even have linux install intructions.

simple and to the point.

are you militant oss/free soft?
then why use mandriva or why view proprietary file formats?

oss/free soft
I like that much better than "FOSS", which I think deemphasizes the "free software" side of things. I also like "OSFS" & "FS/OSS", & of course "GNU/Linux". Of course, with the importance of the desktop choice, I am tempted the describe my system as "GNU/Linux/KDE".

I know that this is off topic, but it seemed that the original Q was answered.

Weather.com I believe searches for and asks for Windows Media Player because I have installed the Real plugins and I still get the box telling me I need to install a plugin. I guess I would be GNU/Linux/Gnome

Glad I'm an old fart who doesn't much care about multi-media ("It's a kid thing."). If it did matter to me, I would be composing an "earthy" diatribe calculated to make an old time WAC drill sergeant blush ...

I'll content myself with a single "What arseholes!".
