Personalise my Distro / email etc

I would like to personalise my Distro - email notification etc etc. Is this easy to do? I am using Evolution Email and want a popup notification instead of just sound (something big and personal - like "SteVo, you have a mail message" or something to that effect), Do I need to use another email prog? if so - what?

Is there any easy way of customising my login - so that when I log in I get an personalised welcome message or something??
